Jerritt Swope - Florida, United States
Jerritt Swope is a native Floridian. He grew up in the LaBelle and started fishing for bluegill brim and largemouth bass at a young age because of his mom and dad. After college Jerritt moved to Ft. Myers Florida. As a broke college student he started looking to buy a boat but found out about kayaks and bought a kayak instead. He’s been hooked ever since.
When he was still fishing in freshwater for largemouth bass a buddy said to him: “why mess around with bass, when you could go catch a snook?”. This is when he tried saltwater fishing for the first time. He caught his first snook and was hooked with saltwater fishing from then on!
Jerritt has been fishing out of a kayak since 2004 , fished many inshore tournaments for redfish, snook and trout and started volunteering with Heros on the water as a fishing guide and event coordinator . If you’d ask him what his 3 best catches were out of a kayak 2 of them would have been from Los Buzos. Number one would be a cubera snapper on 15lb braid on a popper (actually one of the biggest cuberas caught here at Los Buzos!) and number 2 roosterfish! His number one fish is catching tarpon out of a kayak as they are his favorite fish to target.
The first time Jerritt visited us at Los Buzos he caught several great fish including a 49 inch cubera snapper. No more than 4 weeks later he decided to come back to compete in the third championship qualifier where he ended up second and catching a big number of roosterfish and many other species.
