Lance Clinton - Costa Rica
Lance Clinton lives in Jaco, Costa Rica but grew up in Louisiana doing a bit of Bass fishing with his Dad but never did any saltwater fishing until he moved to Costa Rica. He has been down there about 20 years now and loves the slow relaxed lifestyle. He is a surfer who has spent the last couple of decades traveling all over central America (and the world) looking for great waves but it wasn’t until 6 or 7 years ago that he started kayak fishing.
Nowadays he finds himself obsessed with fishing from kayak and enjoys keeping things very simple, which means he never uses electronics like depth finders or gps and almost never uses livebait. “Any success I might have in the kayak I attribute to my thousands of hours surfing and reading water and my willingness to experiment and think outside the box.”
He’s not much of a “sport fisherman” and mostly just goes out to get dinner every day. He typically targets eaters like mackerel, mahi, tuna and snapper but inevitably catches a good many Roosters on accident just because there’s so many of them down where he lives.
As far as notable catches, he has caught a good number of big Roosters, nice Cubera and a couple of big Goliath Grouper from the kayak…all of them on jigs, poppers and crystal minnows.
Lance doesn’t consider himself a competitive fisherman (the qualifier in September was the first tournament he has ever fished in his life) and his goal is to just come down and enjoy the fishing and camaraderie and hopefully catch a few nice fish.
Lance won the third Los Buzos Qualifier in September by catching some very impressive fish including a 50 lbs Almaco Jack, wahoo, cubera and roosterfish. He will be tough competition for some of the other anglers…
